This complete unit is designed to compliment the recent unit rolled out by NSW Education Department 2026.
It is based on the unit of work STAGE 1 UNIT 4 CAPA (Creative Arts) · Drama and Visual Arts
This is the complete unit.
This unit teaches students to explore how artists and performers can reimagine and represent ideas, subject matter or stories, experimenting with creative possibilities through Drama and Visual Arts.
In Drama, students explore how imagination can be used to reimagine objects, characters, settings and stories through performance. They use dramatic elements to communicate ideas and bring stories to life, including an Aboriginal Cultural narrative that expresses connection to Country and Place.
In Visual Arts, students explore how artists represent ideas about the ocean environment through artmaking. They investigate how Torres Strait Islander Peoples express connection to Place in artworks, including ghost net artworks, and explore 3D sculptural forms, materials and construction techniques.
The Creative Arts K–6 sample units are designed as a 16-lesson sequence, comprising of 8 Drama lessons and 8 Visual Arts lessons, with 4 optional consolidation lessons. The lessons are written in sequence to show the flow of learning and the building of concepts across lessons. To implement the syllabus and meet teaching requirements, teachers are expected to teach one Drama and one Visual Arts lesson each week. Sample units have been written to be flexible, allowing for schools to implement lessons from either or both focus areas, depending on their individual context.
