This complete unit is designed to compliment the recent unit rolled out by NSW Education Department 2026.
It is based on the unit of work Unit 4 CAPA (Creative Arts) · Drama and Visual Arts
This is the complete unit.
Duration: 8 weeks + 2 weeks optional consolidation
This complete unit teaches students to explore the world around them through Drama and Visual Arts by looking through an imaginary window. In Drama, students explore ideas and situations through dramatic play, using language, voice, mime and movement to express feelings inspired by scenes they view. In Visual Arts, students explore and experiment with different materials and sculptural techniques, while observing artists from around the world to understand how they represent subject matter and ideas.
The Creative Arts K–6 sample units are designed as a 16-lesson sequence, comprising of 8 Drama lessons and 8 Visual Arts lessons, with 4 optional consolidation lessons.
The lessons are written in sequence to show the flow of learning and the building of concepts across lessons. To implement the syllabus and meet teaching requirements, teachers are expected to teach one Drama and one Visual Arts lesson each week.
Sample units have been written to be flexible, allowing for schools to implement lessons from either or both focus areas, depending on their individual context.
