      Unit Overview

This unit allows students to explore the world of animals through the lens of context, perspective, and representation.

Using Eric Carle’s colourful and imaginative texts, students are guided to identify how elements of their own world are represented in texts. They will analyse and respond to both real and imagined worlds, drawing on their background knowledge, vocabulary, and understanding of descriptive language.

With a balance of informative and imaginative texts, students will learn to compare, contrast, and create their own informative reports using diagrams, Frayer models, and multimodal presentations.

      Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

      Students will:

      • Identify Context and Perspective – Discover how texts represent elements of their own world and how an author’s perspective influences their work.
      • Create Informative Texts – Write their own informative reports on animals using research and planning tools like Frayer diagrams.
      • Build Vocabulary – Master Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 words, noun groups, and action verbs.
      • Enhance Writing Skills – Learn to structure compound sentences, use conjunctions for cause and effect, and create cohesive informative texts.
      • Strengthen Research Skills – Use multiple sources to gather information and create evidence-based writing.
